Bath towels, face towels, washcloths, bath mats, and bathrobes should be collected separately based on their intended use, color, and level of soiling. Used linens must be promptly transported to the laundry area and stored separately from clean ones. Linens with visible stains require inspection and pre-treatment before entering the standard wash cycle. Before washing, any debris must be removed from the linens to prevent foreign objects from damaging the laundry equipment. Effective sorting minimizes color bleeding and cross-contamination, while also allowing the hotel to select the appropriate wash program for different fabric types.
Detergents, water temperatures, and wash times should be selected based on the fabric material and the severity of the soiling. Although pure cotton bath towels and face towels are durable, prolonged use of harsh detergents or excessively high temperatures can damage the fibers, causing the fabric to harden, shed lint, and lose absorbency. Standard stains can be addressed with soaking or a pre-wash cycle before the main wash, whereas stubborn stains-such as oil or cosmetics-require targeted pre-treatment. After washing, thorough rinsing is essential to minimize detergent residue, followed by extraction and drying. During the drying process, one should avoid relying solely on high temperatures and long drying times, as this can accelerate fiber aging and cause shrinkage. For hotels, using appropriate wash temperatures and drying methods is more important than simply increasing wash intensity.
